Is TMS Available on the NHS?
TMS available on the NHS; At the moment Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for the treatment of severe depression is not available on the National Health Service (NHS) in the Yorkshire region. Therefore, The rTMS Centre – Sheffield has worked with individuals towards getting funding for their TMS treatment in the Yorkshire region.
However, these efforts have not been successful due to the tight budgets of the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG). On the bright side, rTMS treatment is gradually getting recognised more in the UK and more mental health professionals are becoming familiar with the treatment. Additionally, over time patient demand will enforce the CCG’s to provide support for the severe cases of depression in the UK.
You can read the NHS guidelines on TMS treatment on their website here.
