Thus, it can be challenging times for you to see a loved one go through these difficult times. Even though it is essential to look after your own mental well-being, there are ways that you can support someone experiencing anxiety. Below are some tips on how to help someone through difficult times.
Be there for them
For those experiencing anxiety, it can make a huge difference to them, knowing that there is a loved one close by to support them if needed. By being there for that person, they will be reassured that someone is there for them in times of crisis. Also, it would mean the world to them and makes them feel valued. Anxiety support will help them through it.
Don’t pressure them
Try to be understanding of their needs and don’t pressure or rush into things. Be patient with them and allow them time to do things at their own pace.
It’s reasonable to need to assist them with confronting their feelings of dread or find viable arrangements. However, it tends to be troubling for somebody to feel they’re being pressured into circumstances before they feel prepared. As a result, rushing things can make their experience of anxiety worse and feel that they shouldn’t ask for help next time.
Taking on new hobbies
Taking on a new hobby or trying something new can be a great distraction. Try to figure our or ask them if there is something that they’ve always wanted to try. For example, baking, art classes, swimming or sports. Or even finding something that you both enjoy and doing it together.
Look after yourself
Supporting someone with mental health conditions can sometimes be challenging and difficult. Therefore, it is important to set your own boundaries to how much you can do without affecting your own mental wellbeing. You can share the support that you are providing with others so that you don’t feel overwhelmed. Also, it is always OK to talk about your feelings with people that you trust so that you can be supported as well.
